The 14th, 15th and 16th Julyt 2007, the Société Française d’Etude des Souterrains will organise it 30th congress at Mirebeau (Vienne) in cooperation with the association Les Troglodytes which is studying the souterrain of Luché (Vienne) for 10 years. The themes of the congress will be :
The souterrains: Places for culte, shelter, dwelling or storage ?
For more than 30 years, the SFES has dedicated many studies to help the comprehension of souterrains in France. The interpretations concerning the use of these souterrains varie according to the régions and to structures of the souterrains but are not yet giving satisfaction for numerous souterrains. The main hypothesis are those of souterrains as shelter, cultual place, storage and dwellings. The conferences will focuse on the presentation of several souterrains showing these various uses and will give place to a debate on the use of the souterrains. As each years, the SFES congress will also be the opportunity to present all the discoveries concerning the artificial caves in France and in Europe. The authors who whish to present a paper are invited to contact the organisation..
In order to allow the participant to discover some souterrains of the area, the afternoons will focuse on the visits of souterrain sites which are typical of the Poitou area souterrains.
We hope to meet you during this congress in order to exchange views and experiences
